Very good condition antique US Model 1873 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle in .45-70 caliber. Mechanically functions fine. Lock is marked “U.S./SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle. Breech block is marked “MODEL 1873”. Barrel has “VP” and eagle head proof marks. Metal finish is original blue with some loss on the lock, hammer, triggerguard, and buttplate. Breech block and tang have original color case hardened finish showing some normal wear. Bore is very good and bright with strong rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Left side of wrist has a nice 1881 dated “SWP” inspector cartouche. Underside of wrist has a “script P in circle” cartouche. Complete with correct original cleaning rod. A nice Trapdoor Springfield Rifle for your collection.
