
Very good condition antique US Model 1882 Chaffee-Reese bolt action repeating rifle in .45-70 Government caliber. Missing part of the cartridge feed mechanism (2 movable racks and spring elevator), as is common. Otherwise mechanically functions fine. Receiver is marked “U.S. SPRINGFIELD 1884”. 27 7/8” barrel has “VP” and eagle head proof marks and is complete with original sights. Metal finish is original blue showing some normal wear. Triggerguard and buttplate have some pitting. Bore is bright and excellent with strong rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some handling marks. Top of wrist has two repaired cracks behind the receiver. Left side of buttstock has an 1884 dated “SWP” inspector cartouche. Underside of wrist has a “circle P” cartouche. Complete with correct original cleaning rod. A rare Chaffee-Reese rifle, with only 753 produced, that will make a fine advanced addition to a collection!
