Very good condition original WWI German 98/05 Mauser bayonet that has Oberndorf manufacturer markings on the left ricasso and dated 1917 on the spine. Bayonet was reissued by the Weimar Republic after the war and has the “1920” stamp on the right side of the guard. Bayonet was converted to a police sidearm by filling in the lug slot and grinding the lock button flush. Left side of guard is marked “S in circle” and “357”. The “S” marking is a known police-associated marking, but of unknown exact significance. Blade has original bright finish with some gray and brown patina. Hilt has original bright finish with some gray and brown patina and a little pitting. Wood grips have original finish and a good tight fit with some normal handling marks. Fitted in correct original steel scabbard that has original blue finish with a patch of loss and pitting, no dents.
