Very good condition antique US Model 1868 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle in .50-70 caliber. Mechanically functions fine. Lock is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle and dated 1863. Breech block is dated 1869. Metal has mostly brown and gray patina. Bore is good with strong rifling and some pitting. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Left side of stock has inspector cartouches in the flat opposite the lock. Complete with correct original cleaning rod. A nice example of an uncommon US Model 1868 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle.
