Good condition antique Remington Rolling Block “transformed” rifle in .58 Berdan centerfire caliber. Produced in the late 1860’s-early 1870’s using repurposed Civil War US Model 1861/1863 Springfield Rifle-Musket barrels. South Carolina and Texas purchased these “transformed” rifles, but this rifle bears neither state’s markings. The “US” marking on the buttplate tang has been peened. Mechanically functions fine and tight. Receiver tang has the Remington two-line address. Receiver ring has an added sighting groove. Rifle has a correct Springfield Rifle-Musket style rear sight that may be a replacement and has a poor fit. Original front sight is present. Metal finish is original “in the white”, mostly taken on brown and gray patina. 39” barrel has a good bore with strong rifling and some pitting. Stock was refinished and shows some handling marks. Right side of forend has a chip by the receiver. Complete with cleaning rod. A hard to find Remington Rolling Block variation that will make a fine addition toa collection.
