DOCUMENTED IN “CARVINGS FROM THE VELDT PART TWO”
Good condition antique Boer War ZAR Model 1895 Mauser Rifle in 7mm Mauser (7 x 57) caliber that has Loewe Berlin manufactured markings on the receiver side rail and an “A” prefix serial number. Part of 10,000 guns ordered and delivered in 1896. Rifle is NOT import marked and has all matching serial numbers. This interesting rifle was captured by the British and has “opposing arrows” markings on the receiver ring and left side of the buttstock. Right side of stock has carved name “G.M. KEMP”. This exact rifle is shown on page 244 in the book “Carvings from the Veldt Part Two”. Research shows a Gerhardus Kemp, who was captured at Spitzkop in 1901 at the age of 18. Gun comes with printouts of the relevant page. Metal has even plum brown patina. Bore is gray with worn rifling and some pitting. Stock has been lightly buffed and shows some normal handling marks. Left side of stock has a faint matching serial number below the receiver. Complete with original nonmatching numbered cleaning rod. A nice documented Boer War Mauser Rifle that will make an excellent addition to a collection!
