Very good condition antique US Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Cavalry Carbine in .45-70 caliber. Lock is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle. Breech block is marked “MODEL 1884”. 22” barrel has “VP” and eagle head proof marks. Carbine is in all correct, original condition and configuration. Original sights are present, and carbine has the 1890 barrel band update to protect the rear sight. Breech block and breech tang have nice original case colors. Remaining metal finish is original blue showing some normal wear. Front of breech has a couple scratches on the left side. Bore is very good and bright with strong rifling and a little pitting. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Left side of wrist has an 1888 dated “SWP” inspector cartouche. Underside of wrist has a ”circle P” cartouche. Complete with correct original ruptured case extractor and three-piece cleaning rod set that store in the butt trap. A nice original US Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Carbine that will make a fine addition to a collection!
