
.58 RIMFIRE-FINE CONDITION-NICE CARTOUCHES
Fine condition antique US Model 1865 (1st Allin Conversion) Trapdoor Springfield Rifle in .58 rimfire caliber. Breechloading cartridge conversion of a Civil War US Model 1863 Springfield Rifled Musket, and rare to find, with only 5,000 produced. Lock is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle and dated 1864. Mechanically functions fine and tight. Hammer has strong original case colors. Breech block has nice original blued/blackened finish. Remaining metal finish is nice original bright with some scattered gray and brown patina, mostly on the lock, triggerguard, and buttplate. Bore is fine and bright with strong rifling and a few small dark spots. Stock has beautiful original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Right side of forend tip has a tiny chip. Wrist has a professionally repaired crack. Left side of stock has two sharp clear inspector cartouches in the flat opposite the lock. Complete with a replaced cleaning rod. A rare US Model 1865 (1st Allin Conversion) Trapdoor Springfield Rifle that will make an excellent addition to a collection!
