
Very good condition antique US Model 1888 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle in .45-70 Government caliber. Lock is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle. Breech block is correctly marked “MODEL 1884”. Barrel has “VP” and eagle head proof marks. Metal finish is original blue showing some wear and some turned brown patina. Bore is poor, dark and pitted with worn rifling. Stock has original finish and crisp edges with a few normal handling marks. Left side of wrist has a sharp clear 1892 dated SWP inspector cartouche. Underside of wrist has a “circle P” cartouche. Unit marked to the 13th New York Infantry Regiment on the right side buttstock. Complete with correct original ramrod bayonet. Bayonet lock system works fine. A rare New York unit marked Trapdoor Springfield Rifle that will make a fine addition to a collection.
