About good condition original pre WWI Imperial German SG 98 Mauser quillback bayonet that is maker marked “SIMSON & CO. SUHL” on the right ricasso and dated 1902 on the spine. Bayonet shows rare and desirable Saxon use with a “crown GR” marking on the spine. Bayonet is unit marked “100.R.6.116.” on the left side of the guard for the 100^th (1^st Royal Saxon) Life Grenadiers, Company 6, Weapon 116. Blade has added blue finish, showing some wear, and has been sharpened. Hilt has original bright finish with some gray and brown patina. One piece wood grip shows some wear and chips and grooves have been re-cut. Fitted in correct original leather scabbard that has steel throat and tip. Leather shows some wear and dings, stitching and staples are tight. Scabbard is unit marked “163.R.6.211.” on the throat for the 163rd (Schleswig-Holstein) Infantry Regiment, Company 6, Weapon 211. A hard to find Saxon marked SG 98 Mauser bayonet.
