Good condition original antique Civil War era British Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle Musket in .577 caliber. Lock is marked “1858 TOWER” and mechanically functions fine. Metal is “in the white” with some gray and brown patina and some pitting. Bore is poor, dark and pitted with average rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some handling marks. Left side of forend has some chips. Right side of heel has some chips. Right side buttstock has an 1863 dated roundel cartouche. Front band is an incorrect replacement, probably from a US Model 1861/1863 Springfield. Buttplate tang has a cancelled unit marking. Complete with a replaced ramrod. A good representative example of a classic Civil War British P53 Enfield Rifle Musket.
