Very good condition original WWII Japanese army officer Shin Gunto sword. 26 ½” blade has original bright finish with some scattered staining and has a nice clear hamon. Tang is nicely signed. Manufactured by Kojima Kanemichi of Seki Province, who won a Special Recognition in a 1941 national sword competition. Wooden tsuka has nice white rayskin covering. Sword was professionally re-wrapped with original cloth tape, and this is in very nice condition. Features a single menuki on both sides depicting three cherry blossoms. Tsuka is held to the tang with a single bamboo mekugi. Brass tsuba has attractive patina and four seppa on both sides. Scabbard lock button is present but does not work securely. Fitted in correct original scabbard that is the rare lacquered wood variant, as used by the Special Naval Landing Forces. Lacquer is in nice condition with a little chipping. No cracks. The drag is missing one tiny screw. A nice original signed Shin Gunto that will make a fine addition to a collection.
