Very good to fine condition antique Franco-Prussian War French contract Peabody “Spanish Model” Rifle in .43 Spanish caliber. Mechanically functions fine and has nice manufacturer markings on the receiver. Rifle has circa 1891 German “crown V” markings on the receiver and barrel, indicative of French contract rifles. Receiver, lock, and buttplate have nice original color case hardened finish, with some wear and loss on the buttplate. Barrel has original blue finish showing a little wear and a little scattered pitting. Bore is bright and excellent with strong rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Left side of wrist has an “W.G.” inspector cartouche. Complete with correct original cleaning rod and socket bayonet. Bayonet is in very good condition and has brown and gray patina. Fits rifle well and has a working lock ring. Complete with original leather scabbard and frog. Leather is pliable with some normal wear. Scabbard has tight stitching. Frog belt loop has been re-stitched. A nice French contract Peabody Rifle that will make a fine addition to a collection.
