Very good condition antique US Model 1888 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle in .45-70 caliber. Lock is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle. Breech block is marked “MODEL 1873”. Barrel has “VP” and eagle head proof marks. Metal finish is original blue showing some wear to brown patina. Breech block retains some original case colors. Bore is dark gray with good rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Left side of wrist has an “:SWP 1891” inspector cartouche. Underside of wrist has a “circle P” cartouche. Complete with correct original ramrod bayonet. Bayonet lock system works fine. A good example of a Model 1888 Trapdoor Springfield rifle for your collection.
