Good condition WWI German 98/05 Mauser butcher bayonet that is maker marked “E. & F. HORSTER SOLINGEN” on the left ricasso and dated 1917 on the spine. This interesting bayonet was reissued by the Weimar government after the war and has the “1920” property stamp on the right side of the guard. Bayonet has the uncommon “eagle 6” marking on the flash guard indicating rework by Simson. Bayonet is marked “N388P” on the left side of the guard indicating issue to the Kriegsmarine (German Navy) Nordsee (North Sea) Fleet during WWII. According to Andrej Blazicek, only 500 bayonets were so marked. This example has a matching property stamp on the scabbard. Bayonet was reblued as part of the reissue, but the blue has been mostly buffed away. Blade has been sharpened. Wood grips have arsenal finish and a good tight fit, lock button functions fine. Fitted in correct original steel scabbard that was arsenal reblued and has several dents. A rare Kriegsmarine marked 98/05 Mauser butcher bayonet that will make a fine addition to a collection.
