W/ RARE ORIGINAL “FLANDERS FLAP” MUZZLE PROTECTOR
Very good condition WWI British No. I MK III* SMLE Enfield Rifle in .303 British caliber that was manufactured by Enfield in 1916, as marked on the right side of the receiver socket. Rifle is NOT import marked and has all matching serial numbers including receiver, 1916-dated barrel, bolt, rear sight, forend, and nosecap. Triggerguard is marked “S.S.A.” for Standard Small Arms, but this is not a “Peddle Scheme” gun. Metal finish is original blue turning plum brown, with a nice untouched patina. Bore is bright and excellent with strong rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Front handguard has a crack at the rear. Underside of forend has a matching serial number. Rifle is complete with the rare original “Flanders Flap” muzzle protector that is attached to the nosecap and mechanically functions fine with a strong spring. Cap is maker marked “HINKSWELL & CO. BIRMINGHAM” with a Broad Arrow. A nice untouched SMLE with matching numbers and rare original muzzle cover.
