Good condition antique US Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield rifle in .45-70 caliber. This interesting gun was modified by a movie studio to a flintlock musket mockup, by adding gold painted bands, cock, and frizzen. This exact pattern was used in John Wayne’s 1960 movie “The Alamo”. Still acts as a breechloading and mechanically functions fine. Left side buttstock is stamped “R & M”, very likely movie studio related but of unidentified. Metal has mostly brown patina. Bore is dark gray and pitted with good average rifling. Stock has original finish and shows handling marks, dings, and scrapes. Complete with ramrod. An interesting movie prop Trapdoor Springfield Rifle that will make a fine addition to a collection.
