ANTIQUE JAPANESE MARKED OTTOMAN PEABODY MARTINI MODEL 1874 RIFLE

Very good condition antique Ottoman Peabody Martini Model 1874 Rifle in .45 Turk caliber that has partially visible Providence Tool Company markings on the left side of the receiver and Arabic serial number on the right side of the receiver, no Sultan’s Tughra. This interesting rifle was purchased by the Japanese, either from Providence Tool Company as overrun or from the Russians who captured it during the Russo-Turkish War. Rifle has kanji character markings on the barrel that translate to “Meiji 15th Year (1882) Gun – 1st Receipt.” Also has kanji character next to English serial number on top of the receiver. Mechanically functions fine. Metal finish is original blue showing some normal wear. Bore is very good and bright with strong rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Left side of wrist and left side buttstock have inspector cartouches. Complete with correct original cleaning rod. A rare Japanese marked Peabody Martini Rifle that will make an excellent addition to a collection.
