Good condition original antique Civil War US Model 1861 Springfield Rifle Musket. Originally made in .58 caliber with a rifled bore, later bored out to .61 caliber smoothbore. Manufactured as part of a 30,000-gun contract by William Muir & Co. of Windsor Locks, Connecticut, and so marked on the lock. Mechanically functions fine. The nipple and cleanout screw are new-made replacements, and the rear sight is a reproduction. Metal has brown and gray patina. Smooth bore is good with some pitting. Stock has been refinished and shows some handling marks. Right side of stock has a small repair behind the lock. Complete with correct original ramrod. A classic Civil War Springfield by an uncommon maker.
