Very good condition pre WWI Imperial German GEW 98 Mauser Rifle in 8mm Mauser (7.92 x 57) caliber that was manufactured by DWM Berlin in 1906, as marked on the receiver. Rifle is NOT import marked and has all matching serial numbers right down to the screws and cleaning rod. Rifle shows rare and desirable Navy use with a “crown” marking on the left side of the receiver. Right side buttstock has original unit marking disc that is stamped “1.M.D.” for the 1st Matrosen (Sailor) Division. Receiver and bolt are original “in the white”. Remaining metal finish is original blue showing a little normal wear. Bore is dark with average rifling that shows some wear, and some pitting. Stock was lightly refinished and shows some normal handling marks. Right side buttstock has “crown M” and Fraktur letter proof mark cartouches. Undersides of wrist and buttstock also have Imperial German proof mark cartouches. Underside of buttstock also has a matching serial number. Complete with correct original matching numbered cleaning rod. A hard to find Navy marked GEW 98 that will make a fine advanced addition to a collection!
