Good condition antique Imperial Russian Model 1843 Luttich Carbine .70 caliber percussion muzzleloading rifle. Manufactured under contract in Belgium and is maker marked “P.J. MALHERBE A LIEGE” on the lock. Buttplate tang is marked with the Russian eagle and serial number 590. It is believed that fewer than 1,000 Model 1843 Luttich Carbines were produced. Top of wrist has original brass inlaid disc that is marked with the cypher of Czar Nicholas I. This model was patterned after the British Pattern 1837 Brunswick Rifle. Mechanically functions fine and tight. Metal has brown and gray patina with some pitting. 30 3/16” barrel has a dark bore with strong two-groove rifling and some pitting. Original sights and bayonet lug are present. Stock shows some wear and handling marks. Underside of stock has a crack in front of the triggerguard. Rear triggerguard screw is absent. Front sling swivel is broken. Complete with correct original ramrod. A very rare Russian rifle that will make a fine advanced addition to a collection.
