Good condition antique US Model 1868 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle in .50-70 caliber. Mechanically functions fine. Interestingly, lock is only marked “U.S.”. Breech block is dated 1870 and has eagle head, crossed arrows, and US markings. Metal finish is original bright with some brown patina. Bore is good with strong rifling and a little pitting. Stock was lightly refinished and shows some normal handling marks. Left side of stock has good inspector initials in the flat opposite the lock. Complete with a later Model 1873 Trapdoor Springfield cleaning rod. A good example of an uncommon early .50-70 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle.
