Fine condition antique Portuguese contract British Snider Mark III Cavalry Carbine in .577 Snider caliber. Lock is marked “B.S.A.&M. Co.” for Birmingham Small Arms Company and dated 1875. Breech block is marked “B.S.A.Co.”. Breech ring is marked “SNIDER PATENT”. Barrel has British proof marks and the distinctive Portuguese serial number. The extractor spring is a replacement, otherwise mechanically functions fine. Lock, hammer, and breech block have faded case colors. Remaining metal finish is nice original blue showing a little normal wear. Bore is bright and excellent with strong rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Original saddle ring is present. Complete with correct original cleaning rod set that stores in the butt trap. A nice Portuguese Snider Carbine for your collection.
