VERY SCARCE EARLY GUN-ONLY 5000 MADE
Very good condition original antique US Model 1865 (1st Allin Conversion) Trapdoor Springfield Rifle in .58 rimfire caliber. Only 5,000 of these were produced by converting Civil War Model 1863 Springfield Rifled Muskets to metallic cartridge breechloaders. Lock is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle and dated 1865. Mechanically functions fine. Metal finish is original “in the white” with some scattered gray and brown patina. Bore is good with strong rifling and some pitting. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks, wrist has a repaired crack. Left side of stock has light inspector cartouches in the flat opposite the lock. Complete with correct original ramrod. A nice example of a rare 1st Allin Conversion Trapdoor Springfield Rifle.
