ARSENAL CONVERTED TO .50-70 METALLIC CARTRIDGE
Very good condition antique US Army Sharps New Model 1863 Cavalry Carbine. Originally manufactured in .52 percussion caliber and later arsenal converted to .50-70 Government metallic cartridge. Retains the 6-groove rifling and has a cam-type firing pin, known as the M1868 conversion. Mechanically functions fine. Lock and receiver have mostly gray patina. Remaining metal finish is original blue showing some normal wear. 22” barrel has original sights. Bore is very good and bright with strong rifling and some light pitting. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Left side buttstock has a “DFC” inspector cartouche. A nice metallic cartridge conversion Sharps carbine.
