
Very good condition original WWI German 98/05 Mauser butcher bayonet that is maker marked “SIMSON & CO. SUHL” on the left ricasso and dated 1916 on the spine. Bayonet is unit marked “L.B.8.41.1.93.” on the left side of the guard. This may stand for an Infantry Training Battalion or the Teamster Detachment of an Observation Balloon Battalion. Blade has original bright finish with some gray and brown patina. Hilt has original bright finish with some gray and brown patina. Wood grips have original finish and a good tight fit with some normal handling marks, lock button functions fine. Fitted in correct original steel scabbard that has original blue finish showing some wear and some light pitting, no dents. An interesting 98/05 Mauser butcher bayonet that will make a fine addition to a collection.
