Fair condition original antique US Model 1881 Trapdoor Springfield Forager Shotgun in 20 gauge. Lock is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle and dated 1873. Breech block is dated 1881. Serialized “9” on the breech. This is the earliest known Trapdoor Mechanically functions fine. Metal has brown and gray patina with some scale and pitting. 26” barrel has a good smooth bore with some pitting. Stock shows some wear and handling marks. Left side of wrist has a faint inspector cartouche and a small crack. Comes with printouts of information on the Model 1881 Trapdoor Springfield forager shotgun. Also comes with a period leather cartridge belt that was modified from a Model 1851 waist belt and has original lead-filled brass plate that has attractive patina and some dings. A hard to find original Trapdoor Springfield Model 1881 Forager Shotgun that will make a fine advanced addition to a collection.
