CONVERTED TO .58 CALIBER PERCUSSION RIFLE
Good condition original antique US Model 1816 musket. Originally made as a .69 caliber smoothbore and later converted to .58 caliber percussion, with the bore rifled. Has the “chambered breech” conversion. Originally manufactured by Brooke Evans of Philadelphia and is marked “B. EVANS VALLEY FORGE” on the lock and dated 1823. Mechanically functions fine. Metal has mostly plum brown patina. 41 ½” barrel has a Model 1861 style rear sight. Front sight blade was added to the front band. Bore is very good and bright with strong six-groove rifling. Stock has been sanded and refinished and has even color. Buttstock edges have been reshaped. Complete with ramrod. An interesting American military rifled musket that warrants further research!
