Good condition original antique Civil War Merrill First Type breechloading cavalry carbine in .54 percussion caliber. Mechanically functions fine. The front of the breech lever is a new-made replacement with an incorrect catch system. Metal has mostly brown and gray patina. Bore is good with strong rifling and some pitting. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Right side of stock has a crack behind the lock. A good representative example of a Civil War Merrill Carbine.
