Very good condition antique US Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Cavalry Carbine in .45-70 caliber. Lock is marked “U.S./SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle. Breech block is marked “MODEL 1873”. Otherwise, gun is in all Model 1884 Carbine configuration including a “C” marked Buffington rear sight. 22” barrel has “VP” and eagle head proof marks. Metal finish is original blue showing wear to brown and gray patinas. Bore is very good and bright with strong rifling and a little pitting. Stock has been refinished. Left side of wrist has an 1886 dated “SWP” inspector cartouche. Complete with correct original front sight hood and original cleaning rod set and ruptured case extractor that store in the butt trap. A nice original Model 1884 Trapdoor Carbine that will make a fine addition to a collection.
