Good condition original antique Civil War import Austrian Model 1851 cavalry carbine in .71 percussion caliber. Mechanically functions fine and tight, and was converted from pill lock to percussion using the Piedmont Alteration. Metal is “in the white” with some gray and brown patina and some pitting. Bore is poor, dark and pitted with average rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Left side of stock has a crack by the breech. Left side buttstock has spurious carved unit markings for Company K, 18^th Arkansas Volunteers, which was a Confederate unit. A scarce and desirable Civil War Austrian carbine that will make a fine addition to a collection.
