Fine condition WWII era German Walther Model 9 pistol in .25 acp caliber that is cased with a small silver tag indicating it was the possession of the famous U-boat commander Gunther Prien. Pistol is serial #548439 and functions fine with a bright bore, gun shows little use. Walther markings are clear and original metal finish shows a little handling wear. Gun is housed in a beautiful leather covered walnut case that has a gold Kriegsmarine eagle on the cover and an oval dogtag size silver disc inside with Prien’s name, rank and U-boat number. Case is light blue velvet lined and has a little scuffing to the finish. Also included is a short history of Prien and the accomplishments of his career to include the highlight of sinking the British battleship “Royal Oak” in Scapa Flow and winning the Knight’s Cross for this kill. This set was recently purchased from an estate collection and we are unable to positively verify ownership of the gun or the age of the case. A beautiful set that will make a wonderful display in a collection and a fine gift for that special collector.
