Good condition original antique US Model 1879 Trapdoor Springfield Cavalry Carbine in .45-70 caliber. This is an original carbine, NOT a cut down rifle. Lock is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle. Breech block is marked “MODEL 1873”. 22” barrel has correct original sights and is marked “VP” and “eagle head”. Carbine is serial number 125xxx, which dates it to manufacture in 1880. Mechanically functions fine and tight. Metal finish is original blue showing some wear. Bore is good, bright with good rifling and a little pitting. Stock has been sanded and refinished and has nice even color. No visible cartouches. Original saddle ring and bar are present. A good original Trapdoor Springfield Carbine.
