ORIGINAL CADET CONVERSION-36” BARREL-SWP &ESA-RARE

Good condition antique US Model 1865 (1st Allin Conversion) Trapdoor Springfield Rifle in .58 rimfire caliber. Lock is marked “U.S./SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle and dated 1865. Only 5,000 1st Allin Conversion rifles were produced. This is one of only 270 altered to a cadet configuration during military service, NOT for civilian sales. Barrel was shortened to 36”, the middle band was moved forward and the original band spring slot filled, and left side stock flat has correct “ESA” and “SWP” inspector cartouches opposite the lock. The firing pin screw is a replacement and the breech block catch has no spring tension. Otherwise works fine. Metal has mostly gray and brown patina. Bore has some dark pitted patches, and good average rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some handling marks. Right side of stock has a crack in front of the lock. Complete with a new-made cleaning rod. A hard to find 1st Allin Conversion Trapdoor Springfield Cadet Rifle that will make a fine addition to a collection!
