
Good condition original WWI German 98/05 Mauser butcher bayonet that is maker marked “E. & F. HORSTER SOLINGEN” on the left ricasso and dated 1915 on the spine. Bayonet has the early high muzzle ears, but the later flash guard. Blade has original bright finish with some graying and a little light pitting. Has been sharpened. Hilt has original bright finish with some gray and brown patina. Wood grips have original finish and a good tight fit with some normal handling marks. Lock button functions fine. Fitted in correct original leather scabbard that has steel throat and tip. Leather shows some wear, stitching has mostly pulled. Scabbard is unit marked “4.A.F.6.14.” on the throat for the 4th (Magdeburg) Foot Artillery Regiment “Encke”, Battery 6, Weapon 14. A good example of an early war 98/05 bayonet.
