Very good condition original WWII Japanese army officer Shin Gunto sword. Blade measures 26 ½” from the habaki to the tip and has nice original bright finish. Tang has signed kanji characters on both sides, dated Showa 17 for 1942. Wood tsuka has nice white rayskin covering and tight cloth wrap. Both sides have a menuki depicting three cherry blossoms. Brass tsuba has two seppa on both sides. Scabbard loch is present but does not work securely. Fitted in correct original steel scabbard that is in good condition. Scabbard has “IWO JIMA MAR 45” scratched on the right side and has original paint showing some wear and flaking and some burn marks from a flamethrower. Scabbard has several dents. A nice Iwo Jima bringback Shin Gunto that will make a fine addition to a collection.
