Very good condition antique US Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Rifle in .45-70 caliber. Lock is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle. Breech block is marked “MODEL 1884”. Barrel has “VP” and eagle head proof marks. Mechanically functions fine and tight. Lock and barrel have nice original blue finish showing a little normal wear. Breech block retains strong original case colors. Bands, nosecap, triggerguard, and buttplate have been refinished a high polish blue. Bore is very good and bright with strong rifling and a little pitting. Stock has nice even original finish and shows a few normal handling marks. Wrist has a repaired break. Left side of wrist has a sharp clear 1889 dated “SWP” inspector cartouche. Underside of wrist has a sharp clear “circle P” cartouche. Complete with correct original cleaning rod.
