Antique German Gew 91 Commission Carbine – Schilling 1891

GUARDS FOOT ARTILLERY UNIT MARKED-MATCH BUT BOLT

Good condition antique German GEW 91 Commission Carbine in 8mm Mauser caliber that was manufactured by V.C. Schilling Suhl in 1891, as marked on the receiver. Carbine is NOT import marked and has all matching serial numbers except the bolt. Gun is unit marked “G.A.F.6.187.” on the barrel band for the Guards Foot Artillery, Battery 6, Weapon 187. Receiver, bolt, and buttplate are original “in the white” with some gray and brown patina. Remaining metal finish is original blue showing wear to brown and gray patina. There is a little scattered pitting. Bore is very good and bright with strong rifling and a few pits. Stock has old revarnished finish and shows some handling marks. Forend has a repaired diagonal duffle cut. Right side of wrist has a gouge. Right side buttstock and underside of buttstock have Imperial German proof mark cartouches. Complete with a reproduction leather sling. A good example of a hard to find GEW 91 Commission Carbine.
