Good condition original pre WWI Imperial German Model 1873 artillery sword that is maker marked “OTTO MERTENS SOLINGEN” on the left ricasso and has Erfurt Arsenal markings on the right ricasso. Dated 1898 on the spine. Sword was reissued by the Weimar government after that war and has the “1920” stamp on the right side of the guard. 29 ¾” blade has original bright finish with a little graying and was period sharpened. Still has original leather washer at the base. Hilt has original bright finish with some gray and brown patina. Hard rubber grips have a few cracks. Fitted in correct original steel scabbard that has mostly plum brown patina and a few dents. A nice German M1873 artillery saber for your collection.
