Very good condition original WWI US Model 1917 bayonet, as issued with the P17 Enfield Rifle and various trench shotguns with bayonet adaptors. Bayonet was originally manufactured as a British P14 Enfield and is marked “REMINGTON” on the left ricasso and dated “5 17” for July 1917. Right ricasso is marked “US” and has cancelled British proof marks. Blade has correct original metal finish of black ricasso and remaining parkerized. Hilt has original black finish showing some wear. Wood grips have original finish and a good tight fit with some normal handling marks. Lock button functions fine. Fitted in correct original leather scabbard that has steel throat and tip and is in good condition. Leather is pliable with some wear and has a crack. Stitching and staples are tight. A good example of an early US M1917 bayonet for your collection.
