SHORTENED TO CADET LENGTH-.50-70 CALIBER
Good condition original antique US Model 1866 (2nd Allin Conversion) Trapdoor Springfield Rifle in .50-70 caliber. Mechanically functions fine. Rifle was likely arsenal shortened to a “cadet” length at some point. Barrel measures 28 5/8” from the muzzle to the breech block face. Lock is marked “U.S. / BRIDESBURG” and dated 1864. Breech block is dated 1866 and has an eagle head proof mark. Metal finish is original “in the white” with some gray and brown patina. Bore is good with some pitting and has good average rifling. Stock was thinned and refinished as part of the shortening. Complete with cleaning rod. A good example of a scarce 2nd Allin Conversion Trapdoor Springfield Rifle.
