Very good condition original antique American .44 caliber smoothbore musket that was originally manufactured as a flintlock and later converted to percussion using the Confederate style system with a striker clamped in the cock jaws. Lock is marked “ALLPORT LateWtn KETLAND & CO.” Barrel is marked “S. Allen”, possibly for Silas Allen who was a renowned New England gunsmith. Mechanically functions fine. Metal finish is nice original brown. 27” octagonal barrel has a notch rear sight and a blade front sight. Smooth bore is very good. Stock has been revarnished and has nice even color. The patch box latch does not work well. Nice brass decorations. Complete with a brass-tipped wooden ramrod. An interesting American musket that will make a fine addition to a collection.
