ANTIQUE GERMAN GEW 88 COMMISSION RIFLE

ANTIQUE GERMAN GEW 88 COMMISSION RIFLE-SPANDAU 1892-NO TURK USE-MATCHING. 168th Regiment Unit Marking-Nice Gun

Very good condition antique German GEW 88 Commission Rifle in 8mm Mauser caliber that was manufactured by Spandau Arsenal in 1892, as marked on the receiver. This interesting rifle was NOT updated to 88/05 configuration and is NOT Turk marked or modified. Rifle is NOT import marked and has all matching serial numbers except the bolt head. Also note that the original matching firing pin has a broken tip, so a nonmatching numbered functional firing pin is currently installed. The matching, broken firing pin is included with the rifle. Rifle is unit marked “168.R.1.73.” on the front band for the 168th (5th Grand Ducal Hessian) Infantry Regiment, Company 1, Weapon 73. Receiver, bolt, and buttplate are original “in the white” with some gray and brown patina. Remaining metal finish is original blue showing some normal wear. There is a little pitting around the stock line. Barrel jacket has a couple of dents. Bore is very good with strong rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some handling marks. Right side buttstock has nice Imperial German proof mark cartouches. Underside of buttstock has faint Imperial German proof mark cartouches. Complete with correct original cleaning rod and magazine cutoff. A nice original antique German GEW 88 Commission Rifle.
