Very good condition WWI German GEW 98 Mauser Rifle in 8mm Mauser (7.92 x 57) caliber that was manufactured by DWM Berlin in 1916, as marked on the receiver. This interesting rifle was reissued to Poland after WWII and has Polish eagle markings on the receiver and barrel and the FB Radom “triangle FB” marking on the receiver ring. Rifle was then captured by the Germans during WWII, who reworked it to a Karab 98b with 98k style bent bolt, tangent rear sight, and sling attachment system. Front sight is slotted and complete with hood. Rifle is import marked on the barrel and has matching serial numbers on the receiver, barrel, ejector box, rear sight, and front band. Otherwise nonmatching. Metal finish is original blue showing some wear. Bore is dark with average worn rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some handling marks. Right side buttstock has “eagle H” and Waffenamt cartouches. Complete with correct original cleaning rod and front sight hood. An interesting Karab 98b Mauser rifle with a storied history.
