Very good condition Boer War Orange Free State (OVS) contract Model 1895 Mauser Rifle in 7mm Mauser (7 x 57) caliber. Rifle has nice DWM Berlin manufacturer markings on the receiver side rail and is marked “O.V.S.” on the left side of the receiver. One of 1,000 guns ordered in 1899, but unable to be delivered due to the British blockade of South Africa. Instead, returned to Germany and sold to Chile, with the Chilean crest applied to the receiver ring. Rifle is NOT import marked and has all matching serial numbers including receiver, stock, triggerguard, floorplate, bolt, rear sight, and cleaning rod. Metal finish is nice original blue showing a little normal wear. Bore is very good and bright with strong rifling. Stock has been lightly sanded. Both sides of wrist have a repaired crack. Left side of stock has a matching serial number below the receiver. Underside of buttstock has an inspector cartouche. Complete with correct original matching numbered cleaning rod. A rare OVS contract M1895 Mauser Rifle with matching numbers that will make a fine addition to a collection.
