AUSTRIAN “AZF” & FINN “SA” MARKED
Very good condition antique Russian Model 1891 Mosin Nagant Rifle in 7.62 x 54r caliber that has Sestroryetsk Arsenal markings on the barrel and dated 1895. Rifle was captured by the Austrians during WWI, as evidenced by the “AZF” marking on the barrel for Artilleriezeugsfabrik (Artillery Arsenal Factory, Vienna). Barrel also has an unusual “R Z” marking of unknwon signifance. Rifle was supplied to Finland late in WWI and has the Finnish army “boxed SA” property marking on the left side of the barrel shank. Rifle is import marked on the barrel. Bolt was Finn renumbered to match the barrel. Floorplate and buttplate do not match, which is common and correct for Finnish Mosin Nagants. Metal finish is Finn arsenal reblue showing some normal wear. Bore is dark and pitted with average rifling. Finn two-piece stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Right side buttstock has a faint roundel cartouche. Complete with correct original cleaning rod. An interesting early Russian M91 Mosin Nagant Rifle.
