Very good condition original WWI German 98/05 Mauser butcher bayonet that is maker marked “F. KOELLER & CO. OHLIGS SOLINGEN” on the left ricasso and dated 1917 on the spine. Bayonet shows postwar Weimar use with a “1920” marking on the right side of the guard. Bayonet is matching Weimar era police unit marked “S.W.9605.” on the left side of the guard for the Schutzpolizei in the Weisbaden District and has matching number on the scabbard. Blade has original bright finish with a few gray spots. Hilt has original bright finish with some gray and brown patina. Wood grips have original finish and a good tight fit with some normal handling marks. Lock button functions fine. Fitted in correct original steel scabbard that has original blue finish showing some normal wear and several dings. A hard to find police unit marked 98/05 bayonet that will make a great addition to a collection.
