Very good condition original pre WWI Imperial German Model 1871 Mauser bayonet that is maker marked “CLEMEN & JUNG SOLINGEN” on the left ricasso and dated 1876 on the spine. Bayonet is unit marked “98.R.E.2.231.” on the left side of the guard for the 98th (Metz) Infantry Regiment, Ersatz Battalion, Company 2, Weapon 231. Blade has nice original bright finish. Guard has original bright finish with a little gray and brown patina. Brass grip has attractive color. Lock button and leaf spring function fine. Fitted in correct original leather scabbard that has brass throat and tip. Leather shows some normal wear, stitching and staples are tight. Scabbard has a matching unit marking on the throat. A nice German Model 1871 Mauser bayonet, hard to find with matching unit markings.
