Very good condition original WWII Japanese army officer Shin Gunto sword. Blade measures 26 3/8” from the habaki notch to the tip and has original bright finish with a few gray patches. Tang has signed kanji characters on the right side. Wooden tsuka has nice white rayskin covering and tight cloth tape wrap that shows some normal wear. Has a single menuki on both sides, depicting three cherry blossoms. Brass tsuba has attractive patina and a single seppa on both sides. Tsuka is held to the tang with a single bamboo mekugi. Fitted in correct original steel scabbard that has original leather covering. Leather is supple with some wear and crazing and a few areas of stitching loss. A nice WWII Japanese army officer Shin Gunto that will make a fine addition to a collection.
