FRANKFORD ARSENAL / REMINGTON

FRANKFORD ARSENAL / REMINGTON PERCUSSION CONVERSION US MODEL 1816 MUSKET
MAYNARD PRIMER TAPE-RIFLED BORE-DATED 1857

Very good condition original antique US Model 1816 musket in .69 caliber that was converted from flintlock to percussion at Frankford Arsenal using Remington manufactured Maynard primer tape locks. Lock has nice Remington markings and dated 1857. Barrel tang is dated 1857. Mechanically functions fine and tight. As part of the conversion, the musket was rifled and fitted with long range sights. Metal has mostly brown patina. Rear sight leaf is slightly bent. Bore is dark with good rifling and some pitting. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Right side of stock has a large chip above the lock. Underside of buttstock and left side of stock (opposite the lock) have sharp clear inspector cartouches. Complete with correct original ramrod. Only 20,000 of these conversions were performed. A nice example that will make a fine addition to a collection.
